Tranz Alpine Adventures

Train to Arthurs Pass National Park then enjoy some great hiking

The TranzAlpine train journey from Christchurch to Greymouth on the West Coast, is rated as one of the world’s great scenic railway journeys.

From your train carriage you will see the fields of the Canterbury Plains and farmland, followed by the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. Your train then climbs into the Southern Alps before descending through lush beech rain forest to the West Coast town of Greymouth.
Rather than taking the train both ways, Canterbury Guiding Co. will meet you either half way at Arthurs Pass, or at Greymouth on the West Coast, giving you a private road transfer back to Christchurch. You will experience the wonderful train journey and the contrasting road journey, during which your guide will stop at some great locations for you to enjoy.
This wonderful train journey is 223 kilometres long and takes four and a half hours. There are nineteen tunnels, and four viaducts, the highest being the Staircase standing at 73 metres.
