Re Start on target

Retailers are keen to return to the Christchurch central city, judging by response to the pop up retail precinct, earmarked to open in Christchurch’s City Mall late October.

Thought to be a world first, the innovative landscaped precinct will feature 27 shops and cafes built from new shipping containers.  Dubbed Re:Start, the ambitious project has selected a mix of retailers who will be primarily exclusive to the inner city development. Innovative concept store Yoobee, which specialises in selling the Apple brand as well as other high end computer products, today confirmed that it is opening a store in the precinct. They have recently opened their first new concept store in Britomart. John Suckling, chairman of the Re:Start the Heart Trust, said the response had been outstanding and 75% of the leases had already been signed.

“It’s clear from the discussions we’ve had with retailers that they’re very keen to get back into the central city as soon as possible. We’ve received great feedback on this concept and I think everyone is starting to countdown until we open on October 29. We know that at first people will just be interested to see the Cashel Mall for the first time since February. We’re really confident that they’ll be wowed by the development, which is very cool and will be a destination for shoppers who have been denied an inner city retail experience. We’ve been very careful to do something which will make people feel safe but at the same time be inspiring.”
